NOVICA is a site you can literally spend a whole day on shopping. There are amazing finds from the Andes, Bali, Java, Brazil, Central America, India, Mexico, Thailand, and West Africa. By purchasing from these artist, you are helping them support their families in areas of the world where they weren't able to make a decent income. I loved reading each artists bio and story about how much NOVICA has helped them. You can even see videos of the artist!
The story Bhavesh told with the Piper Song necklace was, "It is inspired by the legend of Kokopelli, whose music draws heat from the earth so seeds will grow. Ancient stories suggest he was a Toltec trader who traveled from central Mexico to southwestern U.S. deserts and mountains where he is featured in rock art dating back thousands of years."
I found it interesting that the story had traveled all the way to India! I am very pleased with the quality of the necklace. It is lightweight and .925 sterling silver. The necklace came with a postcard and handwritten message from Bhavesh along with a little gold note telling the story. It was wrapped in a jewelry box and the presentation was outstanding.
My second unique gift find was Confetti glass tumblers made by Javier and Efren in Mexico.
I have a huge obsession with glass and couldn't resist the handblown gorgeousness of these tumblers. Javier and Efren create the festive colors by recycling glass. Each glass is handmade, so no two are alike. They work with lead-free, un-tempered and recycled glass, which is melted at very high temperatures. The glasses are heavy weight and absolutely stunning! They also sent a personalized postcard with the glasses. I love that touch!
I love supporting fair trade art and this is an amazing site to find unique gifts, sterling silver jewelry, alpaca wool sweaters, and so much more! Enjoy browsing at the amazing finds :)
