The Summer months always bring on a bad case of eczema for me and the kiddo. My Dr. tried to give me some harsh chemical lotion for the rash or told me to deal with it and I chose the latter. That was until last year when I tried Skin Free. You might remember my blog post here.
Skin Free/ Blue Ridge Gypsy began in 2000 when Julie Hilton moved to Blue Ridge, VA. Julie worked in a pharmacy setting and was constantly asked about difficult skin problems. She realized the void in the market and began Skin Free.
Skin Free just came out with some new products and I'm so happy that I got to try them! I was sent their new: Antibacterial Foaming Soap, Chemical Free Sunscreen, Natural Deodorant Stick, and this isn't new- but the awesome Whipped Tamanu Body Butter.
I have been in search of a great natural deodorant. Lots of big named brands use harmful chemicals like aluminum chlorate, parabens, propylene glycol, triclosan, and aluminum. Natural Cosmetics has a great list of all of the bad chemicals plus why they are harmful if you want to read more. Lots of companies greenwash deodorants and it's really hard to find a true all natural that really works. I've tried several that I love, but they stop working in a couple of hours or they leave a greasy stain on my clothes. I tried the Skin Free Deodorant and I was so happy 8 hours later when it was still working! It is formulated with niaouli essential oil and baking soda to inhibit the growth of bacteria which causes odors. It doesn't stain clothing and leaves your armpits feeling smooth. I really like the extra protection when putting on after a shower. The oils prevent razor burn.
I also love the Antibacterial Foaming Soap! The naiouli essential oils are a natural antibacterial, so no nasty triclosan is needed. I love the soap pump that dispenses the foam soap. It's so much easier for a kiddo to use and wash off. Skin Free has several scents like original, lavender, peppermint, grapefruit geranium, sweet orange, mandarin vanilla, and lemon verbena. I love the smell of the original naiouli essential oils.
We were sent the Chemical Free All Natural SPF 30 Sunscreen, but I forgot to tell Julie that E and I are allergic to zinc oxide. So Skin Free made us a new kind using only titanium dioxide. That is how awesome this company is!! I gave my friend the Natural Sunscreen with zinc for review and she gives it 2 thumbs up. She still got a nice tan, without a burn during the past couple of weeks that she has used it. Her babies also used it and did not get a burn or rash. The Skin Free sunscreen is made with several sun resistant essential oils, a cream base, zinc oxide, and titanium dioxide. There are no parabens, oxybenzone, benzophenone, PABA, octyl salicylate, homosalate, vitamin A, fragrance, octinoxate, benzyl alcohol, retinyl palmitate, propylene glycol, PEGs, phthalates, or phenoxyethanol. There are other dangerous chemicals in sunscreens, but these are to name a few.
My favorite Skin Free product is the Whipped Tamanu Butter. I just love the way it feels going on my legs! It is a mix of tamanu, shea, and olive oil which makes a milky cream that makes your skin feel smooth and yummy. It is perfect for when getting out of the shower or a day of being in the sun. It heals and protects your skin, so it is the perfect eczema cream. It smells so good I could eat it!
